Cooking with Drupal (III)
Get a 1 pixel height graphic to act as the white body background + left and right shadow.
Next, stick that in and set all divs to have the same width as the graphic.
Do some tweaks to make look nice in IE. (the primary links were not displaying well, they were cascading down instead of being side by side)
Finally, push the whole page right to the top by going body{margin:auto}
Lessons Learned
margin:auto works only in IE only when we are in XHTML strict mode.
Automatic centering of stuff can be done using margin:auto!
